For Medical Professionals Training - Healthcare providers MRI’s Training Academy offers a wide range of courses. The training academy is accredited with the Botswana Training Authority. All the courses listed below are accredited to the American Heart Association and the Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa. The courses are designed for healthcare professionals. The courses are designed to equip the course participants with the necessary skills and knowledge based on the latest scientific evidence. The courses offered are:
The training academy is based at MRI house in block 3, Gaborone. Primary trauma care – for health care providers will be introduced in due course. It is aimed at improving the trauma management skills of healthcare providers. Basic Life Support (BLS) The course is designed for health care providers, it covers CPR in detail, breathing techniques, Automated External Defibrillator and relief of choking. It is a prerequisite for Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Paediatric Advanced Life Support. The course takes half a day and like all other American Heart Association courses, the course instruction is video based and hands on. BLS forms the basis of any resuscitation and is a prerequisite for many emergency rooms. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) The ACLS provider course is designed for healthcare providers who participate or are directly involved in the resuscitation of a patient. The course enhances your skills in the treatment of cardiorespiratory arrest and peri – arrest patients. The program is through involvement in a series of simulated cases. The course delivery is also video based and simulated cases are practical and demonstrate effective communication and resuscitation team dynamics. The course is quite intensive and takes two full days. Adequate preparation is required prior to taking the course. We recommend a minimum of 4 -6 weeks of studying the material. BLS for health care providers is a pre requisite for the course. On successful completion, candidates will be issued with an American Heart Association ACLS card which expires after 2 years. Paediatric Advanced Life Support The goal of the PALS provider course is to improve recognition, treatment, and outcome of a seriously ill or injured child. The course provides a systematic approach to the assessment and treatment of the seriously ill or injured child. The PALS provider course offers a universally agreed and standardised approach which it is hoped it will facilitate training and communication among healthcare providers and improve outcomes. This course is also accredited to the American Academy of Pediatrics. The course is offered over 2 days and the delivery is video based with simulated interactive cases where everyone participates. Prior preparation by way of studying is mandatory. On successful completion, participants will be issued with American Heart Association PALS cards which will be valid for 2 years. Airway Management The airway management course is designed for healthcare providers who by the nature of their duty must be proficient in using airway devices. This includes Intensive Care nurses, theatre staff, doctors, emergency department staff. The course duration is 5 hours. This course supplements both ACLS and PALS. ECG and Pharmacology This course is usually taken as a preparatory module for ACLS and PALS. It can however be taken alone for those healthcare providers who wish to have an in depth understanding on ECGs. The course takes half a day as well. The course offers thorough understanding and provides an approach to interpreting ECGs. |
