Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does MRI provide services to its subscriber base?
A:MRI provides its services via call centers. Our medical call centre is staffed by a team of highly qualified Paramedics, Nurses, Call Centre Agents and a Medical Doctor is available to respond to any emergency 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 (6) days a year. On contacting our call centre on the emergency number 992 or 3901 601 we will request certain information such as name of caller, nature and location of emergency and membership status. Thereafter, the appropriate crew will be dispatched to the scene to render the required medical assistance and transport.
992 is free from all service providers i.e. Mascom, Be Mobile, BTC and Orange

The MASCOM 112/147 call center provides emergency services (Fire, Police and Ambulance) while FirstCall 147 provides roadside assist, home assist and medical assistance on an access basis only. This service is available only on mobile phones and to MASCOM subscribers.

The HIV/AIDS Ipoletse Call Centre is accessed via the toll free number 0800 600 700 on any landline nationally.

The last three call centers namely BTC, MASCOM, HIV/AIDS provide advisory and information services only.

Q: What is MRI’s relationship, with medical aid schemes?
A: MRI provides comprehensive cover under a package called Med Rescue to all members of the three medical aid schemes, namely PULA, the Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) and the Botswana Medical Aid Society (BOMAID). Therefore, any member of any of the above-mentioned medical aid schemes can contact MRI in an emergency on 992 and must provide their name, medical aid that they belong to, member number and other information that may be requested by the medical desk staff.

Q: If I have an emergency and do not subscribe to any of your individual or corporate packages, or on any of the three medical aids, will you respond to my request for assistance?
A: Yes, we will. However, we require proof of ability to pay for the service requested. Where an individual is unable to pay, we refer them to the nearest government emergency medical service provider.

Q: Can I sign up for any of MRI’s products as an individual?
A: Yes, individual clients are welcomed, i would recommend that any interested party contact the administration on 360 3066  for further details on how to subscribe.

Q: Can companies with a large labour force benefit from MRI’s services?
A:Yes, we have designed a special emergency medical services package called METRO. This product is targeted at companies that employ a large labour force cannot afford to pay medical aid subscriptions for all their employees.

The company pays a monthly subscription fee- an amount which is influenced by factors such as the number of employees, industry sector and other factors. On subscription, all employees and customers are covered in the event of a medical emergency or injury while they are on the company premises during designated company working hours only.

On contacting MRI, an appropriate team of paramedics will be dispatched to the scene of the emergency to stabilize the patient and if necessary, transport them to the nearest medical facility.

Q: What is the difference between services provided on “access” and “ full service” basis?
A:With “access”, the member usually pays a monthly fee in order to be able to contact MRI in the event that they require service. However, the client also agrees to pay for all services rendered separately. In essence, the member pays only in the event that they utilize the services or on a per incident basis.

Under a “service” arrangement, the member pays a monthly subscription. In the event that they require service, MRI provides this service and the member does not pay for it separately.
