MRI Botswana

MRI Botswana Limited (MRIB) 100% citizen owned by Southview (PTY) Ltd (93 %), Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (3%) and other minority shareholders, was incorporated in Botswana in March 1991, thus becoming the pioneer and market leader in ground and air ambulance evacuations for Botswana. MRIB is an emergency medical transportation company that specializes in the field of Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Care and transportation of critically ill and injured patients. MRIB has been operating its 24/7/365 Call Centre in Gaborone since March 1992.

In September 1998, MRI became the first medical assistance company in the world to go public when it listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE). Today, the MRI brand carries significant recognition in Botswana in the field of Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Care (PHEMC). The Company has earned the trust of the diplomatic corps, corporates, medical aid schemes/societies and insurance groups, which form the bulk of our clientele.

Emergency Medical Services

MRIB Emergency Medical Services division operates at Advanced Life Support Paramedic level with direct medical oversight by the companies Medical Director who is a qualified Medical Doctor. MRIB has been contracted by the major medical aids in Botswana to provide pre-hospital emergency health care to their members.


MRIB has Emergency Medical Services (EMS) bases in Kanye, Palapye, Francistown, Kasane and Maun to provide further coverage for the major medical aid members. MRIB operates both ground and air ambulance services, the latter covers the entire country and extends regionally to cover calls for assistance outside of the national borders.

  1. On-Site Medical Services

MRI ONSITE is a health management solution tailor made for Botswana’s environment and specific to each client’s needs. MRI onsite health management is most suitable in remote areas, mining and construction sites, learning institutions and corporate companies. MRI Onsite teams comprising of experienced Medical doctors, Registered Nurses, and Paramedics are on hand to provide emergency medical and acute supportive care to employees 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. The MRI onsite healthcare teams also deliver 24 hour emergency care from well-equipped onsite clinics, render initial and follow up treatment of injuries and illnesses, and assist with Return-to-Work contractor programs with follow up of referred clients facilitated by experienced call centre medical staff based in Gaborone.   

  1. Contact Centre Division

The heart of MRI Botswana’s service is the network of 24 hours Call Centre (Alarm Centre) which is the nucleus of its expertise, information and care. For its growth strategy, MRI chose to diversify into the provision of Outsourced Call Centre businesses as the processes are similar to the ones employed in their core business which is dependent on Call Centre expertise. MRI Botswana has experienced significant growth since its inception in 1992 and has become a household name positioning itself as the first port of call in an emergency situation. MRIB’s impressive growth rate has been the function of its quality of service both at Call Centre level as well as fast and efficient ways in which Call Centre staff respond to client problems resulting in customer satisfaction, loyalty and retention. In MRI our call centre staffing is driven by the nature of service to be rendered.


The MRI Contact Centre provides customised contact centre services to meet the requirements of a diverse customer base and provides the following call centre services: Health Call Centres; Service Call Centres and Outsourced Call Centres. The contact centre operates 24/7/365 and the services are provided by Professional Nursing Staff, Professional Counsellors, Emergency Medical Dispatchers and Coordinating Agents.

  1. Training Academy

The MRI Training Academy was introduced and established a training unit in 1998 which provides a variety of First aid, Safety and health care providers’ courses. The Training Academy is a registered and accredited training centre with Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) and Botswana Health Professionals Council (BHPC). As such we provide corporate and private first aid and first responder training in Botswana. We are also a recognized American Heart Association (AHA) Training Site affiliated to the Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa - the only such training centre in Botswana offering advanced life support courses for healthcare professionals including nurses and doctors.


Prime Health Pharmacy is Botswana’s first ever 24hour pharmacy conveniently located in Gaborone, Block 7, Plot 60601, MRI Building. Prime Health Pharmacy offers 24 hours service from fully qualified pharmacists and technicians so you are guaranteed expert advice and assistance. Through Prime Health, one can conveniently fax through their prescription for preparation and collect it when they find the time. Prime Health’s relationship with the majority of medical aid schemes in Botswana saves you money and provides chronic medication support.
